National Black Business Month: More Businesses You Should Check Out

Last Friday, I got caught up in the nostalgia of “Black Broadway” and decided to save this post for today. Did you get a chance to check out my Broadway From Your Bedside recommendations? Great! Now that I am back on track, here is my list of Black-owned businesses you can support during National Black Business Month! I actually added a twist and included two black authors you might want to check out.

Caste: The Origins Of Our Discontent by Isabel Wilkerson

In this book, Isabel Wilkerson argues that America’s racial hierarchy should be thought of as a caste system, similar to what she calls “the world’s most recognized caste system” in India. Oprah has selected this as her most recent book club book and gifted 500 copies to CEO’s and leaders around our country.

I have my copy! Order yours today!

she’s strong, but she’s tired by R.H. Sin

R.H. Sin is constantly reminding women that self-care and self-love need to be their priority in life. I started following him on Instagram several years ago because I loved his direct reminders of what love and companionship should and should not look like. His books do the same.

If you haven’t checked him out on Instagram, you should @r.h.sin.

The Village Market

The mission of this company, founded by Dr. Lakeysha Hallmon, is to empower entrepreneurs through education, purpose-driven events, and community engagement.

How do they do it? By connecting Black-owned businesses to engaged consumers, impactful resources, and investors.

Because of Them We Can

What began as a 28-day photo campaign by Eunique Jones Gibson in 2013, where children appeared as iconic Black history figures of the past and present, has turned into an ongoing way to teach and refresh Black history while connecting the dots between the past, present and future.

Kiss Me Like…Cosmetics

Kiss Me Like…Cosmetics is a line of vegan and cruelty free cosmetics created by a woman of color. Check them out on instagram @k.m.l.cosmetics or head over to their website to shop.

Let me know what you think once you check these businesses out!

Much Love,

Tonza

Author: Tonza D. Ruffin

Perfectly Imperfect but VERY PROUD WOMAN, MOM, LAWYER, and AUTHOR, but most importantly...LIFE LOVER! I laugh loud, I work hard, I play hard, I am adventurous, I am curious, I am driven, I have moments of deep insecurity, I am loving, I am vulnerable, I am explosive (not one of my finer qualities), I dance around my house alone, I am an awful perfectionist which makes my insecurity worse, I sing out loud in my car without any concern for whose watching, I have trust issues, I do not live through my children, I no longer try to force my children into the mold that I created so that I could feel validated as a mother, I am a risk-taker, I am guarded in my personal life, I am kind, I am grateful. I am so excited about the rest of my life!
