Lazy Weekend Alone: Curl Up With A Book

breakfast in bed

Hey! Did you get to check out any of the podcast episodes I shared with you? If not, it’s okay. Everyone is not a podcast junkie like me. I get it. If you are not snuggling up with a good podcast this weekend, what are your plans? How about a good book?

I have been on a reading frenzy over the past couple of weeks. Books allow me to escape from reality when I need a little mental break, and I just love a good story. Don’t you? If you have some free time this weekend and are looking for a little escape, here are 4 books you might want to check out.

The Girl Before Book

The Girl Before: A Novel

If I had to describe this book in two words, I would say bizarre and intriguing.

publisher’s synopsis:

After a personal tragedy, Jane needs a fresh start. When she finds One Folgate Street she is instantly drawn to the space—and to its aloof but seductive creator. Moving in, Jane soon learns about the untimely death of the home’s previous tenant, a woman similar to Jane in age and appearance.

My Not So Perfect Life Book

My Not So Perfect Life: A Novel

A great read if you love a full circle, feel good story!

publisher’s synopsis:

Everywhere Katie Brenner looks, someone else is living the life she longs for, particularly her boss, Demeter Farlowe. Demeter is brilliant and creative, lives with her perfect family in a posh townhouse, and wears the coolest clothes. Katie’s life, meanwhile, is a daily struggle—from her dismal rental to her oddball flatmates to the tense office politics she’s trying to negotiate. No wonder Katie takes refuge in not-quite-true Instagram posts, especially as she’s desperate to make her dad proud.

Then, just as she’s finding her feet—not to mention a possible new romance—the worst happens. Demeter fires Katie. Shattered but determined to stay positive, Katie retreats to her family’s farm in Somerset to help them set up a vacation business. London has never seemed so far away—until Demeter unexpectedly turns up as a guest. Secrets are spilled and relationships rejiggered, and as the stakes for Katie’s future get higher, she must question her own assumptions about what makes for a truly meaningful life.

Something In The Water Book

Something in the Water: A Novel

This one started off slow for me. I am glad I am the type of person that can’t walk away from a book once I start. Boy did I walk away questioning the decisions we make as human beings. Thought-provoking!

publisher’s synopsis:

A shocking discovery on a honeymoon in paradise changes the lives of a picture-perfect couple in this taut psychological thriller.

The Perfect Couple Book

The Perfect Couple

You talk about a lot going on in Nantucket! I loved every minute of it. Great read for sure.

publisher’s synopsis:

It’s Nantucket wedding season, also known as summer-the sight of a bride racing down Main Street is as common as the sun setting at Madaket Beach. The Otis-Winbury wedding promises to be an event to remember: the groom’s wealthy parents have spared no expense to host a lavish ceremony at their oceanfront estate.

But it’s going to be memorable for all the wrong reasons after tragedy strikes: a body is discovered in Nantucket Harbor just hours before the ceremony-and everyone in the wedding party is suddenly a suspect. As Chief of Police Ed Kapenash interviews the bride, the groom, the groom’s famous mystery-novelist mother, and even a member of his own family, he discovers that every wedding is a minefield-and no couple is perfect. Featuring beloved characters from The Castaways, Beautiful Day, and A Summer Affair, The Perfect Couple proves once again that Elin Hilderbrand is the queen of the summer beach read.

Be sure to share your thoughts on any of these books once you read. And, of course, share what you are reading. I am always looking for a new book to curl up with!

Much Love,

Perfectly Imperfect but VERY PROUD WOMAN, MOM, LAWYER, and AUTHOR, but most importantly...LIFE LOVER! I laugh loud, I work hard, I play hard, I am adventurous, I am curious, I am driven, I have moments of deep insecurity, I am loving, I am vulnerable, I am explosive (not one of my finer qualities), I dance around my house alone, I am an awful perfectionist which makes my insecurity worse, I sing out loud in my car without any concern for whose watching, I have trust issues, I do not live through my children, I no longer try to force my children into the mold that I created so that I could feel validated as a mother, I am a risk-taker, I am guarded in my personal life, I am kind, I am grateful. I am so excited about the rest of my life!
