Massive Meltdown? No Worries: 7 Things To Help You Reset and Recover

The pressure of being disconnected from the world as I know it, coupled with some personal challenges, finally got to me yesterday. I had a MM (code for massive meltdown), like ugly cry and all.

When Chadwick Boseman died, I watched Amanda Seales share the overwhelming grief she felt about his untimely death, her personal sense of isolation, and some personal challenges she was facing. Before I knew it, I was crying with her. Over the past couple of weeks, I have had some conversations with women at their wit’s end. We are trying to stay afloat as we balance things like career, kids in school, loneliness if you live alone, realizing we do not like our significant others that much if we live with someone, financial stress, and sheer uncertainty. With no end in sight and our stress levels increasing, we have to come up with creative ways to cope and recover.

I don’t know about you, but meltdowns leave me drained. Here are 7 things you can do reset and recover after one:

shower

take a warm shower

Or a bath! Whichever you prefer. Warm water is soothing and calming.

woman napping

take a nap

There is nothing like a nap to help you regroup and reset. In fact, it has been scientifically proven that naps increase productivity. Because of this, coupled with the fact that I love naps, I am going to create a napping station for me and my employees in my next company.

stay in bed

After your nap, if you have nothing to do, pull your comforter up and just stay in bed, allowing your mind and body to relax.

no cell phone

disconnect from the world

Turn the ringer off and flip your phone face down. Taking a break from the outside world may sound strange at a time like this, but it is incredibly calming to my mind to disconnect when I am in meltdown mode.

talk to your non-judgmental friend

The one that will let you cry it out and express your deepest fears without ever using your meltdown as a tool against you in the future. Everyone needs a friend like that!

scented candle

turn on your diffuser/burn a candle

Something about a good scent wafting through my house brings me a huge sense of calm.

listen to music

Turn on your favorite holiday song

My cousin recommended this, and it actually gives you a pick up if you are a holiday lover like me.

I know I am not the only one that has experienced a massive meltdown. So, you know what I am getting ready to ask. SHARE YOUR MASSIVE MELTDOWN RECOVERY TACTICS!

Much Love,

Perfectly Imperfect but VERY PROUD WOMAN, MOM, LAWYER, and AUTHOR, but most importantly...LIFE LOVER! I laugh loud, I work hard, I play hard, I am adventurous, I am curious, I am driven, I have moments of deep insecurity, I am loving, I am vulnerable, I am explosive (not one of my finer qualities), I dance around my house alone, I am an awful perfectionist which makes my insecurity worse, I sing out loud in my car without any concern for whose watching, I have trust issues, I do not live through my children, I no longer try to force my children into the mold that I created so that I could feel validated as a mother, I am a risk-taker, I am guarded in my personal life, I am kind, I am grateful. I am so excited about the rest of my life!

  1. Thanks for passing along these tips to help us get through these very uncertain times. I have to admit that there are days that I feel overwhelmed with life. Then when I find my peace, I beat myself up for feeling that way. When I am in my own valley I can’t see everyone else around me suffering. So thanks so much for sharing all your words of wisdom and passing along things that will help us all get through our own situations.
